Writing and Life

“A writer sometimes just needs to be able to just stand and gape at this or that thing – a sunset or an old shoe – in absolute and simple amazement.”
 - Raymond Carver

“Life is lived head-on, like a roller-coaster ride.”
- Joyce Carol Oates

“Some people want to be writers and you ask if they've written anything. "No I haven't." You want to be a writer? Sit down and write. There's nothing stopping you. All you need is a typewriter.”
 – Nelson DeMille

“I try to end every chapter with an air of suspense. I try to leave the reader wanting to turn the page. I try to use short sentences, short paragraphs and short chapters to keep the reader's interest.”
– Nelson DeMille

“Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.”
- Stephen King

“Writing was not a childhood dream of mine. I do not recall longing to write as a student. I wasn't sure how to start.”
- John Grisham

  1. I really liked your quote by Stephen King. It is very true that someone can be extremely talented but if they never try they will not achieve anything worthwhile.

  2. I often think about the quote by Joyce Carol Oates. I know that life is full of its highs and lows and I do my best to try to stay level headed through it all.
